2004 P71 Crown Vic...ive owened it for 3 years now and in the last mont, i can be driving along
and the headlights will shut off themselves. Running lights stay on, but headlights shut off randomly. After a few minutes, there is a click in the left side of the dash and the headlights come back on.any ideas anyone?

Not exactly sure on this but here's my shot:

I have had this on 85 LTC and 91 LTC...both times it's been the headlight main switch....the one you pull out to turn on the headlights....

Location: On the left dashboard...near the driver side left knee...by the driver side door.

The whole assembly needs to be replace...check the bone yards...easy replacement for about $10 bucks or so.

There is a module under the dash that has to be replaced. I had the exact same issue on my 2003 P71. I replaced the headlight switch and that did nothing. It is easy to find under the dash above the accelerator pedal. A couple of screws hold it in place. Lucky for me I was able to locate one in a surplus PD because they are pricey.

Lighting Control Module. You can buy a reman from Autozone or O'Reilly's for around $175.00 [waiting a week to ten days for the part]...or pay Ford $565.00 plus labor for a new one. OR, go to eBay, pay a guy in Lawrenceville, Ga $53.00 for a PERMANENT repair, and he will fix it and send the module back to you the same day he receives it.

The 2003, 2004, and 2005 Grand Marquis, Marauder, and Ford Crown Victoria all have defective LCM and will need to be replaced at some point. There is a bad relay switch in them.

Note: car will not come out of park while there is no LCM installed. Thus, you have to wait several days after pulling LCM, sending it to Georgia, and waiting on repair.

I can also repair the LCM for you.

If you buy one from Ford, or any FLAPS you will get an LCM with the same crappy OEM type relay. I guaranty the LCM WILL fail again.

I replace the crappy stock OEM relay with a heavy duty external relay.

I have repaired over 150 of these LCMs. I will warranty the work I do for as long as the car is running.

I also offer a swap service.

PM me for prices and details.
