Cutting the springs only one(1) link will shorten them, but will increase the "hardness" of the spring. You will begin the feel EVERY bump in the road. Then you need to getting firmer shocks to cover up this harshness. Some people don't mind doing this.
The coil tension clips are junk. They will only make things worst. And if one ever decides to come off, you will in a world of hurt trying to drive a crooked car.
IMHO, only take one (1) full link off the spring and getting firmer shocks. I use AC/Delco shocks for the Police Interceptor (which are Chevy front and Dodge rear shocks), and these are pretty firm.
