I've never messed with a '56, but it should be just like putting a big block in an early Mustang. Go check out several of the Mustang / Ford forums online. And I'm sure you may find an early Fairlane forum somewhere.
That 351M was an alternative engine to the 351 Windsor and 351 Cleveland. Doesn't get big horses or rev high. I remember reading an article about that in Hot Rod mag quite a while back. If I remember right, it like a big block for motor mounts and trans. You may want to check Hot Rod mag and Custom Rod mag online to see what they have to say. Also look for Modified Mustang mag.
Most of the stuff you will need should be available online at some stores. I think you may have to have a custom driveshaft, or cut the one you have. Maybe some exhaust modifications to fit right. If the rear end is a 9", rebuild it and keep it. Nearly indestructible
I wish you luck on your project. And keep us informed about it..
