Hello everyone
I\\\\'m a proud owner of a 2002 crown Victoria p71 this my 3rd crown Vic my last one was a 2003 and the Vic I learned to drive on a 89 Vic lx .
I join this club and forums for help and troubling shoot some problems I\\\\'m having with her now

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong area or if I should post this in a different area

180,000 miles
Problem
Code p0301 misfire
Rough idle and the idle worsen when ac is turn on
Recently change the pigtail connector on the coil pack on the number one . My previous crown Vic had the same problems before I sold it
One thing beside the idle problem and loss of power is
When turning the wheel to the right it tighter than going left if that makes any sense only when having these misfire codes... This was the case for both of my vics... When turning to the right only.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks
JD

Welcome to the forum. You may also want to search through www.crownvic.net for help.

Codes p0301, 0302, 0303, 0304, 0305, 0306, 0307, or 0308 are generic codes for misfires. These can be caused by a bad spark plug, bad coil pack, bad wiring, or bad injector.

Most people find that replacing the spark plug wires(about $70) (or the spark plug insulators(about $40) on the 99+ models) usually solve the problem. If you have 40K miles on the spark plugs(about $32), simply replace them.

Getting moisture on the coils (especially the COPs) will also cause this code. Some people will remove them and hand dry them off. Don't forget o apply the silicon dielectric(about $4) to the wiring connections and spark plug ends to keep out moisture.

Corrosion on the injectors will give a similar symptom, and this is caused by NOT applying silicon dielectric to the wiring connectors.

How did I find out about this? When it happened to my car, I brought it to a shop for repair. After getting over the shock of the price to fix it, I then decided to start searching forums to find out what was happening. When it happened to my 2nd car, I knew then what to search for. And correct.

A lot cheaper the second time around.

po301 is for cyl one misfire. now the issue is to figure why. start with the basics.
1.air...is the intake tube open or torn after the MAF? is the intake mani leakig(very common)
2.fuel....injector haging open, stuck shut
3.spark....weak coil, leaky valve cover(oil in tube), broken or missing bolt to hold coil down?
4.compression.... should be around 150 , but you wanna check a manuel to confirm. leak down test.
nine times out of ten this will find the culpret.
