I have a 03 FCV LX Sport Package with the amber turn signal lense on the rear tail lamps. These have 4 bulb set up. The police package and other FCV LX Sports(I have seen in Detroit) have all red tail lamps have the 2 bulb set up. I want to change my tail lamps to all red with 2 bulbs but the wiring harness plug is different. Without cutting and splicing is there a way to plug and play the 2 bulb set up. I was under the impression there was only 1 main wiring harness for the FCV? The 2 bulb set up wiring harness has 3 pins in a square plug and the 4 bulb has 4 pins in a square plug. Has anyone done this modification to their LX Sport package and will I have to cut and splice or is there another factory wiring harness I need that will go between the 2 bulb and farther up in the trunk area along the wheel well area by the fuel shut off switch behind the carpet mat?? Any and all help would be appreciated as I am new to this forum and site.

Scott from Detroit.

Most auto manufacturers use 1 wiring harness for each model of car/truck. The different version or models use certain wires for certain options. However, occasionally a different wiring harness is use for a particular model. Some have used a common harness with plugs for variations in options. So if you have a different tail light setup, there may be a plug to remove the old and plugin the new mini-harness. I do not think there is a disconnect anywhere in the harness for the rear in the CV.

I think Ford used a single wiring harness for all models of the CV, but made additions or changes on the assembly line. (I have a friend who worked for GM and on the line they would cut and tape off what they didn't need.)

I would look at the wiring diagrams for both models and see what differences there are. Since you are changing the housings as well, you should get a set of bulbs with connectors with the correct pin out. (3 pins in a square hole). You should be able to splice into the original harness with no problem
