I recently had the intake crack problem. Ford dealer replaced. In the two weeks since, I have had staring issues first start of the day. Starter spins but motor doesn\\'t fire for a few minutes, then a couple sputters and goes. Runs fine the rest of the day. It has done this 3 or 4 times in two weeks.
I called the dealer and inquired if this could be related to the intake manifold replacement. He is doubtful. He thinks my fuel pump may be on the way out. I checked the fuel filter and it seems ok.
Could there be a relationship here? I just spent $1300.00 on the intake and now they say it might be $1200.00 for fuel pump r&r. I am crossing my fingers that this is related to the previous work...which is covered under warranty. Any ideas?? Thanks!

You might have coolant down in some spark plug wells, especially cylinder # 4. Just a guess.

Its a 97 CV, so you probably have about 160,000 miles on it. If you don't want the stealership to fix it, you can do it yourself in your driveway for about $125 (depending on where you buy the fuel pump at). The worst part is setting up the car properly to get to the fuel pump. And even that is easy. Look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjVJC2kfpTI&playnext=1&list=PL946ECE0A607B8A88&feature=results_video At one point there was a video on YouTube where the guy went through the entire process showing step by step on how to do it. Just do a Google search on "replacing fuel pump in 1997 Crown Victoria"

To do the job, get your fuel pump and any necessary tools (like the fuel line disconnector) ahead of time. The only drawback with replacing the pump is that the tank in located above the rear axle vertically. To get to the tank, jack up the rear of the car to place jack stands under the frame. Let the rear axle hang down with the tires not touching the ground. This will give you room to get to the tank. Loosen up the right side exhaust pipes so they can be moved aside slightly. Loosen the straps that hold the tank so let the tank come down enough for you to get to the pump. You may have to cut the wires, but do use the quick disconnect to remove the fuel line. Unscrew the bolts (or screws) holding the fuel pump to the tank, and slowly shimmy the entire assembly out. On a work bench or garage floor, remove the old fuel pump from the assembly and then install the new pump. Re-assemble everything in reverse order. TADAH! You have replaced your fuel pump.

You MAY want to go through the trouble of completely removing your tank, and get it washed out with a high pressure washer (car wash works) to get years of crap out of it.

May I suggest www.rockauto.com for parts and tools. Also, go to www.crownvic.net for a write-up about doing this. I think it does have pictures.
