Alright, here's the thing, I found 3 ads on craigslist selling crown vics that caught my interest
The first one is a 1999 crown vic with 175,000 miles, with no mechanical issues. The seller claims it was a district attorney's car, never a cop car. The seller wants $1400
The second is a 2005 ex-taxi crown vic with 260,000 miles for $1200. This seller claims to have installed a new transmission in the vehicle.
The third and final ad has a 1996 crown vic with 150,000 miles selling for $1000. Clean inside and with claims from the seller about it having no mechanical issues whatsoever.
My question is given the info I listed of each car, is the price for each reasonable or too good to be true?
P.S. I'm new to this forum, but I would appreciate it if the sarcastic, uninformative, and/or snide replies be left out |

Taxi companies are notorious for HIGH mileage vehicles, driven by many drivers, some who know how to drive and others who can't drive worth a damn. I would avoid it unless you really want to work on the car.
The 1996 is about right but the mileage seems slightly low. They may have had issues and it was parked for a while before they fixed it, so that would explain the low miles. The price is about right, but the 1992-1999 had the non-PI heads and only ranged in the 190 to 215 HP. The later 1999-on engines had the PI heads and ended up with 245 HP.
The 1999 is about right on miles. So is the price. I would offer $1000 but not go over $1200 for it. Try to get a Car Facts on it before committing.
I saw a CV that was used "by the Fire Chief" of a local town. The Car Facts showed it had been used originally by a Texas taxi company for 123,000 miles, held in auction for 2 years before being sold to an individual, was registered in New Orleans during Katrina and not used for two years, and then re-auctioned in Mississippi to this town were the Fire Chief had it for about two years. I found out that the Fire Chief wanted to get rid of it because they couldn't get rid of the moldy smell in it. WATER DAMAGE. Had it been flooded in Katrina, or did it just have bad window / door seals that leaked? If it was flooded, it is illegal for someone to sell such a car except as salvage. No one knows except it smelled. IF the car was salvaged, it could have gone through several salvage owners who did not have to register it, and finally re-auctioned with no one really knowing its past. Buyer Beware!
