Here's what we always did:
First, check and make sure the oil is good and full. Then, pull the plugs and shoot a little oil down the cylinders. If it's not locked up, pull the coil wire or the Duraspark so it won't fire. if it feels a little tight, it won't hurt to crank it over by hand a few times. Crank it over a few turns, let it sit for a while, then do it again. The oil will burn out after a while once you get it running. Once you're confident that it'e all loosened up, hook the spark back up and let it fire. Make sure the oil pressure is reading good. Give it a good tune-up. |

Use the Marvel Mistery Oil - Very little in each cylinder.
Remove coil and spark plug wires - Note where they came from (Some Forget).
You can hand crank - If the starter works put it to some good use now.
Please (Note) - At this time of cranking the motor (Make sure that the oil pressure is going up) - I would beleive you have a guage inside the vehicle.
If not stop trying to crank the motor.
Now - Remove the Distributor - use a oil priming tool - you can make your own or purchase one - Use it with a drill and get the pump primed - after priming pump - reinstall the distributor again - Note the same way it cam out (use a marker if you have too) - or get a manual.
Then - try starting the truck/car again - Noting the oil pressure guage and make sure it climbs - If it does.
you can can now reattach all the wires from where they came and the coil wire too.
Start the vehicle - Make sure you check the gas, water...etc.

make sure it is not locked up with rust if it is you can drain the oil leave old oilfilter on fill crank case with kerosine and let set take all your belts off and take spark plugs out try to turn by hand if you cant let sit for a day or two try by hand agin this shuld loosen up all the rust in motor. if you do this when you fill with kerosine fill it to the gills and when you drain it leave drain plug off for a couple of days to drain all the kerosine out and when you do get it running do a oil change after about 200 miles just to be safe hope this helps you

I recently revived a 302 that had been parked for 14 years. I did not want to
pull the pan so found the following on a web site:
Assuming you can turn the engine through by hand.
1) Pull the plugs - I shot PB Blaster down each cylinder
2) Drain the oil and replace drain plug
3) Remove the dip stick and then rig you a funnel on the
dip stick tube so you can introduce liquids directly into
the oil pan
4) Pour 3 quarts of Zylene through the funnel, down the
dip stick tube into the oil pan
5) Let this sit for a couple of hours or more.
6) Drain the Zylene from the oil pan
7) Pour 3 quarts of kerosene down the tube into the
oil pan.
Let this sit for a couple of hours
9) Drain the kerosene
10) Remove the funnel and replace the dip stick
11) Remove the old oil filter and replace with one of your choice
11) Add required # of quarts of oil - should be 5 on a 351
At this point you need to make sure the gas tank hasn't been
fouled. Mine had old gas in it. Had to have our local radiator
shop clean and seal. You should also clean the fuel line from
the tank to the carb. Take it loose on both ends and shoot some
brake cleaner fluid through it. Complete the job with your air
gun. If it has an inline filter - replace it with a new
one. If it doesn't have one, I suggest you add one.
Add new plugs, battery, fresh gas and give her a go. Assume it
starts (and a FORD) always does, it will smoke like all get out.
This should subside over time.
I suggest you run the engine for about 20 minutes. Shut it down
and remove the oil filter. Toss it out (I know you just put it one
a half hour ago but it will have collected a lot of residue that was left
in the pan) and replace it with a new one. Top off your oil
and good luck.
Hope this helps.
