2005 cvp71 starter problems

had this car for about three months now with no problems. As soon as I go get a alarm installed,
and it was time to leave the car would not start. So they tested battery and that was good then they
tested all the wires from inside and they were good too. When I put the key in and turn to the on position all the lights come on and then when you turn it all the way it does nothing. No sound no nothing,but when he went under the car and touched the starter it started cranking.So I had to hold the
key on while he touched(sparked) the starter. Does anybody know what that could be? Would that be
considered a bad starter? Somebody please help me or point me in the right direction.

With that type of behavior it could be a bad starter solenoid not the starter itself though.

The one question I have though is if the alarm has an ignition cutout so the car cannot be started?
If it does the most common way of doing this is to cut out the starter solenoid. So it could just be a bad or malfunctioning part/connection in the Alarm system as well. This I think would be the most likely culprit as the Alarm was just installed.

If your alarm has the starter kill you may want to disconnect that part and then try to start. May have not been installed correctly.

First, to everyone that posted about the alarm, I don't think he said it got installed.

Second, if the starter functioned OK, I would check or replace the ignition switch.

(not trying to flame or anything but that was how I understood it.)

But if the alarm doesn't have a start cutout this is a moot point if the behavior he states with the ignition switch is right the more likely culprit is the starter solenoid which is a common issue for Fords.
