Trying to verify what spline my axles are on my 2008 Police Interceptor car (P71) with rear end axle code of Z5. I\\'ve been told by multiple sources that the PI cars came with 31-spline axels, but want to verify this as it has an open carrier not a Traction Lok dif. I want to upgrade to a Traction Lok differential, and want to buy the correct unit for the spline I have. |

If I recall correctly, the Z5 axle code is for conventional open axle rear end with 28 splines.

You are partially correct, it is an open diff but in mid year '05 they started using 31 spline axles.
So highrzr, you DO have 31 spline axles.
I would check the tag on the housing though, there have been cases of the rear not matching what it says on the door.
It should say 3 27(according to the door tag), if it says 3L27 then you have a trac-lok. |
