Low mileage/108k well maintained/garage kept 1 owner, recently acquired from my father who was meticulous about maintenance...The first time I drove it, the problem cropped up, then went away for a week or so, then resurfaced several more times after trips of 120 miles or so, so I took it in for a full tune up. The problem has resurfaced.

First, I get some minor but noticeable bucking/lurching which if not for other noises/issues feels like the transmission is acting up as the engine continues to run smoothly...

then the check engine light comes one...engine races.....some whirring sounds from engine compartment (center or passenger side).

Engine revs to the extent the car goes 30-35 mi hour on level pavement without my foot on the gas....I recently had full tune up with new plugs, wires, pair of coils aimed at fixing this problem.

Since tune up, drove car around 10 times/500 miles, no problem until recently, where after about 120 miles (as before), the problem surfaces. Another post/reply on another site said I may have vacuum hose leak.

It's just a SUPER-DUTY Mustang GT Sedan. 198K miles and still rolling HARD.

1997 Crown Victoria P71 SVT *** ex-US Marshall service (the CAR)
STOCK?? I bet it was modified.

I added CAI, NICHE 19 X 8.5 " wheels with 245/45ZR 19 rubbers, and completely rebuilt the front end with poly bushings, Kooks headers, 2 1/4inch exhaust, TCI 2200-2400 rpm Stall converter

.PLANS:: engine upgrade, 5.4L 2v stroker, rebuild interior in leather w/ buckets, thinking about turbos

Thanks, that/s a lot different answer than leak in vacuum hose. Checking Edmonds, noted problems for a 1994 crown vic include failure or Exhaust Gas Recirculation and the Airbypass tube. Another noted problem was failure of the torque converter. Just wondering if the symptoms I experienced could stem from these problems. Thanks for your help.
