diesel fuel inj.

I have a 2004 Excursion 6.0 diesel with 72000 miles.While running the truck today it started acting like it was running out of fuel,hard shake under hard ecceleration.Got it back home and checked for engine codes,no check engine light or codes,so I changed the fuel filter on the frame rail.Now the truck won't start,so Iam thinking the cap is cracked,sucking air.Any other suggestion?I have ordered a new cap.

I did get the truck to start but it still has the same hard idle and acts like it is running out of fuel.I think it is the FICM.

OK... That is where i'd look next. I recently replaced my FICM w/ one of those from Bullet Proof Diesel (7 Pin) & set it to push 58 volts (2 new batteries are recommended when you switch your FICM, because battery strength obviously dwindles as they age). In addition... 2 of my fuel injector went out, so i just finished installing stock motorcraft (brand new) from Black Cloud Diesel (NEVER make the mistake of buying refurbished injectors, this was confirmed with another diesel mechanic)... All that said... my rig runs perfect... and that FICM was strong... and it proved itself well in the BRUTAL Wyoming winter when it came start time. SO, my Ex is all in synch... and running like a charm... I have repaired / replaced all the 6.0L PSD "isms"... and she is awesome... check the stats on my rig in my gallery.

MountainWestDiesel...... I have now thrown my hands in the air! The BigRed X is being towed to a local shop (River City Diesel),from what I understand these guys rock with Powerstroke trucks, the lot has at least 10 trucks waiting.I'll let the pros take a look,my truck wants some luven!

Sorry to hear that. River City Diesel has a GREAT reputation. I purchased lifters, valve springs, and push rods from them. I rebuilt my entire engine (Head studs, head gaskets, billet water pump, and the aforementioned) just a few weeks ago. 2 of my injectors went out, So I decided to knock all this out at once. Thank god my tax return soften the financial blow.

MountainWestDiesel........Got the news from River City today.The BigRedX dropped #2,,#4 and #6 Injectors.Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. I dropped #2 & #6 injectors... I went with Black Cloud Diesel... they offered stock, new motorcraft injectors, not refurbished. Called my local diesel mechanic. Spoke to him about refurbished injectors. He told me a hooror story about another guy w/ an Excursion who went refurbished, that caused damaged to his rig, so he recommended stock, new injectors. That mechanic drives a Dodge w/ a Cummins, so not only does he fix them, he drives them as well.

I actually was going to purchase my injectors from RCD, but they didn't offer new, stock ones. I did however pick up a set of RCD's push rods, valve springs and lifters. I just wanted to get as much stuff replaced as possible. I added ARP headstuds, head gaskets and a Bullet Proof Diesel billet water pump as well.

I want to have every 6.0L PSD "ism" replaced / refurbished or repaired. I now have peace of mind, knowing I have a few hundred thousand miles ahead of me, without worrying about anything else, powertrain wise, going south.

Its a labor of love. Hang in there brother.

MountainWestDiesel Got the BigRedX back lat week.I didn't get it my wife and son did.Is there a break-in period on the injectors,should I change the oil sooner?The ol' X fires right up and seems to run like it did,although babying it a little for now.

The only break in that I know of... is when my mechanic took it around the block a few times, to feel how it works, from starting to idle to how it feel under accelleration. The wife tell me that it starts up & runs like it was brand new.

Glad she is back up on the road.
