I travel full time in a Motorhome and tow a car behind me. I know that cars with an auto transmission CAN NOT be towed if the transmission is of the\\"front pump\\" design, such as the Ford C-6.
My question is can I use an external electric trans fluid pump to circulate the fluid and therefor tow a C-6 equipped car? Such pumps are available from companies like Remco for this use but their application listings only go back to 1996.
Does anyone know any reason why this would not work with an older (1970\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s) C-6?
Thanks in advance for your input! |

I have done a bit of towing like you do. What I have always done it to remove the drive shaft at the rear end (differential), and then secure the drive shaft to the exhaust pipes so it could not move. Some have completely removed their drive shaft, but I found on my Start Chief I could bind the shaft without it coming loose.
With the pinion coupling set-up with bolts to connect to the u-joint made it easy to unbolt and re-bolt the u-joints. Some duct tape to hold the u-joint together, and bind it to the pipes. Easy fix.
I heard about using the pumps years after I was towing cars like I described. Never tried them as what I had done was sufficient.
