1999 P71 ?'s

I've been offered a '99 P71 on trade for my bagged Blazer. The current owner says its a retired detectives car, since hes owned it he's installed a Magnaflow catback, Marauder airbox, 3.73 rearend gear and a Diablo programmer. My question is, is there anything I need to look for or be aware of and is it worth it? I ballpark my Blazer in the 3500-4000.00 range. Just wondering what I need to be wary of or should watch for. Thanks.

Check the VIN and make sure it does have "P71" in it.

The most common problems with the p71s are the intake tend to leak coolant and you have to replace the intake manifold, front end wear (bushings need to be changed), and transmission missing shifts (most have been repaired under warranty).

Since your friend was the second owner, most of these problems may have already been fixed.

All in all it is a great car without getting into the luxury packages of the Town Car. I've owned mine for 4 years and still have fun with it.

On the intake manifold it is really easy to tell if you have the right one. The water passage at the front will be aluminum and the rest of the intakes for the cylinders will be plastic.

Sounds like it may be a fair trade. If it was a detective car it should have a cloth rear seat and no wear on the drivers seat from a patrolmans duty belt. One of the main questions I have is how many miles, and again if it is a former detective car check the engine hours, they should be a lot lower than a regular patrol car.

The manifold HAS been fixed, and it has 121,000 miles. Cloth rear seat, NO damage to anything.
