I have a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. The problem I am experiencing is that the battery light comes on intermittently and it causes the entire electrical system to go haywire:

1) Automatic climate control shuts off and immediately turns back on.
2) Turn signals stop working
3) Electric windows and wipers speed up
4) Sometimes the abs light comes simultaneously with the battery light.

I'm not familiar with automotive electrics so I did what I could to figure this out. I cleaned the battery terminals and ensured that they were tightened. I took out the alternator and made sure that the brushes were not worn out. All this was to no avail.

Oh and the car drives fine even when all this is happening.

I'd really appreciate some help on this matter.
