Hello all, I recently decided to upgrade my 135 Amp Alternator to a 200 Amp unit. The alternator I'm installing is the Mitsubishi manufactured police duty alternator. I was told that it is a straight forward install for my 2005 Mercury Marquis with the 6G plug etc.The only other thing I was told to do with installing this 200 Amp Alternator is to upgrade the battery harness using Motorcraft P/N WC96002. Both the 200 Amp alternator and WC96002 harness is designed for police use. Am I missing anything or will this work for my civilian 2005 Mercury Marquis? Thanks all.

Should be good to go, you may have to reset the PCM so it sees the new alternator. The plug is indeed the same for both civi and P71 in '05.

Go check out the installation notes at www.pa-performance.com on alternators. Unless you are running tons of lights or a 5000 watt stereo system, the 135 amp will work fine if the contacts and joints are all kept clean.

It is not so much as resetting the PCM as setting up the alternator. And the alternator will only output what is needed. With my car at idle in gear, ac on, four-ways flashing, 1200 WATT stereo blaring, and all four doors open, mine barely draws 105 amps with a five year old 135 amp alternator. But then I keep the connectors cleaned every year.
