I have a 2005 P71 , 143000 miles. Was running fine, until recently. First symptom was it seemed to lose forward motion on the highway when driving at 70 in OD, pressed on the gas to pass and lost all forward motion. Pulled over to a stop, took off again, ran fine, unless I accelerated enough for it to kick down. Next symptom two days later, no first gear for 2 to 3 seconds, then suddenly slams into gear, like it jumped from neutral to drive under high revs, ran fine otherwise, until taken out of gear, then same thing, 2 to 3 second pause then slam into first. Changed fluid and filter, no better, maybe worse. Now, I can get it to go forward, but it must be with OD off, car completely warmed up, and I have to kind of rev it and \\'feel it\\' catch, so to speak. It is not a slip, I do not believe. Any ideas ? I have been told it is possible that is is the shift solenoid and can be replaced without tranny removal. Any advice at all would be helpful. The only code was 2106, and the wrench light was on, but it went of when I restarted it, not the check engine though. All wires look ok, the throttle body motor was replaced maybe 2000 miles ago.

You need a new transmission, cheap on ebay but shop carefully.
