interceptor motor

Ok I'm pretty new to crowns my first Ford wasn't a fan till now. Any way I have a 01 interceptor problem is the motor is shot. Local yard has a few I was going to pull one for my car. My question is can I just put a 4.6 in there or does it have to be a interceptor engine. Since I'm really clueless about the interceptor model what exactly makes it any different motor wise I know suspension an dual exhaust an cosmetic features. O yea do Mustang motors drop right in no modifications or stuff needs to be done . Thanks for any help

All the modular engines 4.6L (and 5.4L) are the same as far as displacement goes. The differences between the civilian engine and the interceptor is the computer program. You could get a 4.6L from a Lincoln or a Mustang, install it, and once you connect your computer to it, it will run like an interceptor.
