So was kind of wondering whether all P71 cars need premium fuel or will they run on regular unleaded. The one I had was a 97 and did not like regular.

I only run regular. I would not even think to run premium.

If there is nothing wrong with the car, it is supposed to get regular gas.
If you can't run the car without premium then you have a problem that needs to be fixed.
No Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Town Car needs premium fuel until it is tuned for it, the only Panther vehicle that is supposed to use premium is the Marauder.

I went with higher output coils and had to go with a colder plug because I had a high RPM ping on regular. The colder plug got me going without any issues though.
