Hey there, I've got a 2000 Ford Crown Vic (Police Interceptor model).
Last week the rubber strap (passenger side) which holds up the gas tank (on the outside) broke. I've been trying to find a replacement strap for it, but both Autozone and the local Ford Dealership seemed confused even when I showed them pictures. The part # they gave me (9053) is wrong, I'm looking for the rubber strap that goes around the protective shell (9A032) around the gas tank .
I haven't been able to find a picture of it online,or any reference to anything other than the straps (which are metal and not what I am looking for). I'm out of options/brains to pick.
Can someone help me!?!?! I desperately need this part as I'll be starting a new job and need the transportation.
I used Spectra straps on my 2005(part #ST211), it should be the same.
It's a metal strap that holds the tank, the P71's have a rubber bumper between the strap/body/tank which may be harder to find.
rockauto.com has 3 listed for your year(Spectra ST127, Fineline FLST127 and Dorman 578127), they look exactly the same as the ones I posted a link to but check your year on amazon or anywhere online. I'm surprised that a parts store can't find these.
I thought that rubber alone wouldn't logically be enough to hold up the tank. But I could also see with my own two eyes that there was rubber involved.. My guess is the police interceptors had the straps insulated as a standard thing.
Thanks for clearing it up for me. I didn't want to order a part and then have it be the wrong thing.
I'm still surprised the guys at the dealership and Autozone didn't know what it was when I showed them the pictures/video.
You are a lifesaver!!!!
PS- this is an interesting forum. I'm learning how to do repairs on my own and this looks like a great place for info!
