As u can tell, i have a 2001 F-350 with a 6 speed. It runs great, but it needs more. An engine upgrade would do the trick. I have found an engine that will do. It is a 565 ci engine made for a boat, but is streetable. The creator says it has 1050 hp and 900 lb-ft tq. Is this swap possible. I use this truck for everything, often in the desert of on some very nice trails. MORE POWER!!!! |

Good luck keeping it cool. What do you need 1000hp for??? especially on desert trails. Shure it is possible but I bet it won't be practical. Boat motors are built for top end only. If this person tells you that it will drive good on the street I would get a second opinion cuz they are trying to "unload" a motor that there is a very limited market for. What do you want this truck to do, specifically? Tow heavy loads, get good gas milage, tons of torque, good acceleration, awesome resale value = diesel, go test drive a newer one you will be supprised!

The specs for the motor are:1050hp@ 6500rpm & 898lb-ft tq@ 5500rpm. Keeping it cool will be no problem. I've delt with cooling issues all my life. In the desert, you usally keep the revs high, right? So, this would be perfect for fast roads and trails.

Andrew the only place in the desert that you would need high rpm's would be some place like Baja. And even in the Baja races they don't see 6500 rpm, it is much more like 4000-5000 rpm. due to longevity. As far as trails are concerned that power rpm range would be completely wrong. You need low end torque in a trail situation, like idle(600rpm or even less) to about 2000-2500 rpm. The mods needed to make the powed that you say that engine is making will not be compatable with trail use. It will be constantly loading up & fouling plugs, it will not even idle until about 1200 rpm, and due to those mods that engine will have a lot of cooling issues at the slow speeds needed in trail riding, let alone every day traffic. I see you live in the Bay Area, Ca. I vacation there every year so I know very well what the traffic is like. When I was younger I had a cj-5 with a 350hp.(dynoed) 327ci. engine and I tried to trailride with it. After several years of trial & error I finally had no realize that the mods combination I had was all wrong for the trails. It would go like he** on the highway but thats not what I wanted to use it for. I am NOT,trying to criticize you for your efforts. You just have two completely different needs for that engine and they are worlds apart as far as engine needs go. And this engine thats for sale might be a good engine, but it will not suit either of your needs very well based on the info you stated. One last comment, You must submit the veicle for biyearly emission tests in you area, this boat engine will not pass due to the mods.
