Aquasport started building fiberglass saltwater fishing boats in Hialeah, Florida in 1964, first under the name C&S Boats, and its 22 foot 2 inch 22-2 was one of the earliest production center consoles, the layout that now dominates coastal fishing. The company went through a 1969 sale and a 1988 bankruptcy before Genmar Holdings bought it in 1989 and retired the brand after the 2005 model year. Most Aquasports on the water today are open center consoles and walkarounds from the late 1960s through 2005, with the Osprey name covering the bulk of the later center console production.

Florida roots and the center console
Fred Coburn and Lennox Sargent started building fiberglass fishing boats in Hialeah, Florida in 1964 under the name C&S Boats, and the company became Aquasport in 1967. The first hull was 22 feet 2 inches long, which is where the 22-2 name came from, a modified vee outboard boat with the helm on a console in the middle of an open cockpit so an angler could work a fish all the way around the boat. That layout was rare in 1964 and is the default coastal fishing boat now. Aquasport claimed the first production center console, along with the first walkaround cuddy and the first production tuna tower.
The 22-2, later badged 222, stayed in production for decades with three main bottoms: the nearly flat aft Flatback of the early years, the 12 degree deadrise Osprey, and the 19 degree CCP for rougher water. Clean early Flatbacks still get stripped to the hull and rebuilt because the bottom design aged well.
Corporate history
Coburn sold the company in 1969, and it never sat still with one owner again. Aquasport went through bankruptcy in 1988, was bought out of it by an investor, and was sold in 1989 to Genmar Holdings, the Minneapolis boat conglomerate run by Irwin Jacobs that also held Wellcraft and Hydra-Sports. Genmar moved production from the Miami area to North Carolina and then into the Wellcraft plant in Sarasota, Florida. It suspended Aquasport production after the 2005 model year and moved the dealers over to Wellcraft, about four years before Genmar itself filed Chapter 11 in June 2009.
The name came back later. Ebbtide picked up the dormant brand, and since 2023 Aquasport has been built by Twin Vee PowerCats in White Bluff, Tennessee. A new Aquasport shares nothing with the Florida boats but the logo, so check the hull identification number before assuming what era a boat comes from.
The Osprey line
Osprey started as a hull designation, the 12 degree deadrise version of the 222, and Osprey badged hulls go back to the 1970s. Under Genmar it became the name of the whole center console family, sized by model number. The 175 Osprey is the 17 foot 5 inch boat of that family, built from about 1990 through 2003, roughly 1,850 pounds dry and rated around 120 horsepower, light enough to tow behind a small pickup. The 205 Osprey ran from 1990 through 2002. The 210 Osprey shows up in 1993 and again as a 21 footer through the final 2005 model year, with late versions carrying a small cuddy inside the console. The 225 Osprey came in for 2000 and ran to 2005.
The 175 Osprey Classic designation appears on some titles and used listings but not in factory literature or the valuation guides, so treat it as the same 17 foot hull family and confirm year and model off the builder plate.
The 161 Tournament Cat
The 161 Tournament Cat is the odd one out, a 16 foot 1 inch twin sponson catamaran with a 7 foot beam, built in small numbers from roughly 1998 to 2002. The cat bottom pops onto plane quickly and gives a stable casting platform at rest, and with the engine up it drafts about 14.5 inches. Most were rigged with 90 horsepower two stroke outboards. Production was low, so verify the year and builder plate details on any individual hull.
Owning one now
Parts support is typical for a builder that stopped in 2005. Hulls outlast everything else. Aluminum fuel tanks, plywood cored transoms and decks on pre 1990 boats, and original wiring are the usual replacement items, and none of it needs brand specific parts. Tanks get welded from measurements and everything else comes out of a standard marine catalog.

Can I still get parts for an Aquasport?
There is no factory parts pipeline for classic Aquasport hulls, but almost nothing on these boats is brand specific. Fuel tanks are custom welded from measurements, hardware and pumps are standard marine catalog items, and outboard repowers are straightforward.
What is the difference between an older and newer Aquasport of the same length?
Pre 1990 Aquasport hulls often have plywood cored transoms and decks that need a rot inspection, and the early 222 came in three different bottoms, from the flat aft Flatback to the 19 degree deadrise CCP. Later Genmar era boats built at the Sarasota plant picked up integrated livewells, self bailing cockpits, and updated deck tooling.
