Remove the spark plugs. inspect the spark plugs for a gap bridged 0 Check tor deposit build-up closing the gap between electrodes. Deposits are caused by oil or carbon iouling. 0 Clean the spark plug. inspect lor oil touting. 0 Check tor wet. black deposits on the insulator shell bore electrodes. caused by excessive oil entering the combustion chamber through worn rings and pistons. excessive valvetogurde clearance or worn or loose bearings, 0 Correct the oil leak concern 0 install a new spark plug inspect ior carbon fouling. identied by black. dry. tlutry carbon deposits on insulator tips. exposed shell surtaces and electrodes. This is caused by a spark plug wlth an incorrect heat range. dirty air cleaner. too rich a iuei mixture or excessive idling. o cteanthe spark plug. inspect lor normal burning. 0 Check tor light tan or gray deposits on the ring tip. inspect ior pte-ignion. 0 identied by melted electrodes and possibly a damaged insulator Metallic deposits on the insulator indicate engine damage. which may be caused by incorrect ignltion timing, wrong type of iuei or the installation or a heii-coii insert in place of the spark plug threads 0 install a new spark plug inspect ior overheating, identied by a white or light gray insulator whh small black or graybrown spots with bluishburnt appearance or electrodes. This can be caused by engine overheating. the wrong type of iuei. loose spark plugs. spark plugs with an incorrect heat range, low iuei pump pressure or incorrect ignrtion timing 0 install a new spark plug inspect ror rused spot deposits. rdentined by melted or spotty deposits resembling bubbles or blisters, These are caused by sudden acceleration. 0 Clean the spark plug.
