The former heater hose was as hard as a rock. I had to chip it off the tube. The hose was exposed (through the weldless gap in the metal tube) to exhaust gas direct from the header.

It held for about 5 days. Hidden by the heat wrap (and initially working) it appeared quite functional. Didn't think to cut off the heat wrap to see what was underneath.
