Diagram illustrating the Hydro-Boost Unit bleeding procedure.
Hydro-Boost Unit, Bleeding Note: The power steering uid level in the auxiliary reservoir will rise and fall as the accumulator is charged and discharged Fill to the MAX line when the accumulator is discharged. 1. 2. Deplete fluid in hydroboost accumulator by depressing the brake pedal ten times with engine off. Using Vacuum Pump D83L-7059-A or equivalent, extract air from power steering fluid by applying 8198 kPa (2429 in-hg) vacuum to power steering pump reservoir (3E764) for three minutes. Loosen bleeder screw located on top of booster housing between dash panel (01610) and accumulator. Using Vacuum Pump D83L7059A or equivalent, extract air from booster cavity, tighten bleeder screw, disconnect vacuum. H101 17-5 Add Motorcraft Mercon ATF or equivalent meeting Ford specification XT2QDX to the power steering pump reservoir to bring level to full mark. Note: Vehicle may be raised on hoist to reduce steering wheel turning effort. With engine off, disconnect vacuum and turn steering wheel lockto-lock twice, return to center position. Using Vacuum Pump D83L7059A or equivalent, extract air from power steering fluid by applying 8198 kPa (2429 inhg) vacuum to power steering pump reservoir. Start engine and turn steering wheel locktolock. Deplete fluid in hydro-boost accumulator by depressing brake pedal ten times with the engine off. Loosen bleeder screw located on top of booster housing between dash panel and accumulator. Using Vacuum Pump DB3L7059A or equivalent, extract air from booster cavity. Tighten bleeder screw, disconnect vacuum. 10. Start engine, turn the steering wheel, check the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir and
