Mercury Monterey
1954 Mercury Monterey Specs & Photos
The 1954 Mercury Monterey was the top-line series of the 1952-1954 body, positioned above the base Custom. For 1954 Mercury retired its long-serving flathead and adopted the new overhead-valve Y-block V8, a 256 cubic inch unit rated at 161 hp (gross). Body styles included a two-door hardtop, convertible, four-door sedan, and station wagon, and 1954 introduced the Monterey Sun Valley hardtop with a tinted Plexiglas front roof panel. Transmissions were a three-speed manual, optional overdrive, and the Merc-O-Matic automatic, making this the final year for the body before the 1955 restyle.
