DSCN3127-tire3-sidewall-gash-down-into-cord.JPG 363 hits | 42.11 KB | Posted: 2016-05-08 Used tire purchased from and installed by Tires and More for Less in NE Minneapolis on 03May2016, pic11. Upon returning to Tires and More for Less later in the day on 05May2016 to return the four used tires I purchased from them, I told them a second tire they sold me was also damaged, with a dangerous cut in the sidewall that visibly went into the cord. This photo shows a view with my thumb lightly pressing from behind to help display the depth of the cut. The manager of the used tire store immediately blamed the major-brand tire store for causing the sidewall damage when they removed the tire from the rim, causing me to review the photos I took the day before. The first and last photos in this folder show this cut was present while the tire was mounted to my car, just the way it was originally installed by the used tire store. The store only offered a partial refund, while I asked for a full refund, so I left the four tires at the store without any refund and filed for a full refund with my VISA card. VISA reviewed my claim and wrote back, "... the claim does not qualify as a recognizable billing error under consumer protection laws...". VISA recommended I return to the store to negotiate a refund. I then did, but the negotiation failed, as it did previously.... (Posted in: UsedTirePurchase)

After purchasing new tires from a major-brand store on 05May2016, I kept the four used tires for return to Tires and More for Less. Before returning them, I fully photographed the four tires. Two had a fresh tar-like goo on the beads and sidewall (as shown in picture) and one had a dangerous sidewall slash. Otherwise, they looked to be in good shape.... (Posted in: UsedTirePurchase)
DSCN3084-replaced-tire-with-mechanic.JPG 321 hits | 70.55 KB | Posted: 2016-05-08 Used tire purchased from and installed by Tires and More for Less in NE Minneapolis on 03May2016, pic09. After the mechanics saw my flat tire on 05May2016, they quickly offered to replace it with an identical used tire. I said OK, but realizing that both beads were damaged on the flat tire, and that one sidewall was damaged, and a tar-like goo was smeared around both tire beads, I advised that I also needed to have the other three wheels removed from my car so the tires could be deflated to allow me to inspect the beads for damage on all four tires before reinflation. They told me to go to the waiting room. I did briefly go up front, but quickly returned to the garage to find they'd already inflated the replacement used tire (mechanic shown in photo with replaced tire), so I was unable to inspect the bead for damage which might be caused by an untrained mechanic. They did not seem to care, and they repeatedly told me to trust them. I repeatedly told them I did not trust them. They repeatedly asked me what I wanted, and I repeatedly told them I needed to inspect all the beads prior to tire inflation. They did not show any interest in removing the other wheels from my car, but they did show interest in getting this wheel back onto my car and getting me out the door. I told them I needed to buy new tires and return these, but they only offered a partial refund, which I turned down. I left, with the factory spare tire still mounted and the inflated replacement tire in the trunk, went to a major-brand store and bought four new tires, and returned these four used tires the same day without getting a refund.... After this tire went flat on 04May2016 and was returned to the store on 05May2016, the mechanic removed the tire from the rim and placed it onto the floor. I took photos. After flipping the tire onto the other side, this other bead was also terribly damaged along a 3-inch long segment of bead. This photo shows where I heard air gushing when I originally placed the flat tire into the trunk of my car, and this is obviously the defect which caused my tire to go flat.... Upon returning the tire to the store on 05May2016 and having it removed from the rim and placed onto the floor, I noticed one of the beads was badly sliced-up along a 6-inch length, with multiple slices within this length. The bead's brown cord was readily seen under the slices, but I don't believe this damage caused my tire to go flat.... (Posted in: UsedTirePurchase)

Upon returning my flat tire to the used tire store on 05May2016 and being taken on a tour through the shop by the owner, I saw a mechanic quickly take the flat tire off the rim and place it onto the floor. I stepped over and took photos. I clearly saw there was a fresh tar-like goo(?) around the entire bead on both sides of the tire, with some goo smeared onto the sidewall and rim. I'd never before seen a goo like this on a tire bead. I assume the tire shop uses it to help seal the tire, but they never responded to my questions about the goo.... (Posted in: UsedTirePurchase)

While the flat tire was in the trunk of my car, I looked for a leak. I heard a loud hissing when I'd press the tire, and noted a severe warp at the bead along a 3-inch length. I pushed the sidewall with my hand and clearly saw the tire bead was terribly damaged at the innermost ID, with cord showing through the damaged black rubber. This is where the hissing sound came from.... (Posted in: UsedTirePurchase)

Upon further inspection of the flat tire on 04May2016 from the trunk of my car, I also noted the sidewall had some old scraping marks all the way around, in the shape of a half-inch wide band and about 1/16th of an inch deep, halfway between the sidewall text and the tread. Not a big deal, but not good, either. When I returned the flat tire to the store on 05May2016, I showed this scrape to two attending mechanics, and they both told me it was normal, with one mechanic pointing to the same place on a different tire in their shop (which had no damage). I again told them my flat tire was also scraped.... (Posted in: UsedTirePurchase)
