I have now broke the pin holding the distributor gear 4 times. There is nothing wrong with the oil pump! I am theorizing that the new Edlebrock manifold is thinner than the original manifold and therfore the distributor is bottoming out on the oil pump boss in the block. and when tightening the distributor lock down bolt, I am really just adding pressure to the gear bottoming out on the boss. I can replace the pin and the motor will run for for a 1000 miles or more before it breaks again. I seem to remember shims on the 400 ci motor that I replaced under the distributor, is this common? |
