What type of refridgerant does a 2000 Excursion use??? R-134a?? R-12?? Other?? I think mine needs a recharge, as it is not getting as cold as I think it should. |

My A/C has just started working on the panel/floor setting (while it's a nice feature, it ain't supposed tow ork this way). Gonna have to get that looked at.
R-134a I believe is the standard ozone friendly refridgerant. My A/C gets ice cold.

Mine's working fine, but it seems like it's blowing all the time on auto mode. I just can't seem to find the perfect temperature. 70 is what I have it set to, but after like an hour in the car, it'll be freezing. Putting it up to 71 makes it too warm, so I just suffer with the cold. |

Well, I used to have it that way. Now that my 2002 EX has 20K miles on it, the AC won't put out lower than 68 degrees F. I have a thermometer in the dash. The truck is only a little over a year old. Seems too soon to lose freon....Is this covered by the extended warranty?

Wheels, the car manufacturers knocked off using R-12 in the mid-'90s after the federal govt. made it illegal to make the stuff. All of them since then use R-134, which is NOT as efficent as R-12 used to be. That means the air conditioners don't work as well as they used to.

Having same problem, ive read some posts and the main reason seems to be continuous flow to the heater core....several mods out there, still looking into them...does anyone know of any that work? |

Thanks for the replies guys, I am going to have the AC serviced this week. Hopefully it is just low on freon. It could just be the heat here (100+). I will let you all know what happens. |

I've posted the AC issues over at the The Diesel Stop in the Excursion Diesel slot.
I know how dry/hot the north/central valleys & the Southlands in California get as we relocated from Northern Cal ourselves a year ago to Hot and Humid Dallas Texas. Our AC on the 2002 had plenty of room for improvement after surveying the mis-doing's of Ford engineers. First you gotta fully insulate all the cold AC charge lines in the engine area and the entire length running under the passengers side of the X,I picked up close to -10 degree drop and equalized the front dash vent temps with the rear vents. Second, purchase a minimum 2,000 cfm pusher fan to mount to the front condensor. The stock radiator fan doesn't pull any air volume for beans through the condensor,I picked up between -5 to 10 degree drop there at freeway, surface street or idling. When you post your temps registering from a digital temp probe make sure you post the ambient outdoor temperature with humidity percentage.
I know that the more humid areas of the country tend to benefit AC systems as the heat/cold exchange rate is better which is why some posters from out here have better results unless then you're from the northern half of the US BILL

Thanks for the great info, I would REALLY love to do this, especially with the 105-110 temps on the way this week. Any more info would be GREAT |
