Yes, more details! I am definitely interested in improving the a/c temp while idling. Rush hour can get a little hot!

First you gotta fully insulate all the cold AC charge lines in the engine area and the entire length running under the passengers side of the X,I picked up close to -10 degree drop and equalized the front dash vent temps with the rear vents.

Second, purchase a minimum 2,000 cfm pusher fan to mount to the front condensor. The stock radiator fan doesn't pull any air volume for beans through the condensor,I picked up between -5 to 10 degree drop there at freeway, surface street or idling.

Good info Bill. Thanks! A couple of questions if you don't mind:

Any special kind of insulation to use on the lines?
How did you attach the new insulation? Cable ties? Tape? Glue?
How hard to get at the lines in the engine compartment and under the X?
Since the condensor is mounted in front of the radiator, do you see any benefit to engine coolant as well with your electric pusher fan? How about tranny temps? Does the pusher help with airflow over that cooler as well?
Sorry for the barrage, but my X is less than about six months old, and already when I come to a stoplight, you can feel the temp of the air outlet rise before the light changes. Funny they just didn't build a slightly bigger system that could handle the load.
Thanks in advance.

Lets head on over to Home Depot pick up (3) 6 foot sticks of pipe insulation foam 1/2" size. Grab a roll of 2" aluminum tape(should be in the same isle)

In the engine area kick on your AC to pinpoint the cold charge lines routing from the compressor, then take a foam stick and start cutting sections to cover the lines completely going to the receiver/dryer(the black cannister thing against the wall)

Once you have the cold lines covered with the foam I cut off 5-6" sections of the aluminum tape off the roll and snuggly wrapped the tape around the foam(the tape adheres very well) basically going around the foam one time then putting on the next piece then the next with maybe a 1/8" overlap,I made sure no foam was left exposed.

For underneath the truck there's 4 bolts holding up 4 thick plastic brackets retaining the AC/engine coolant lines(which the lines sorta snap out of the brackets)I then removed all four. The underneath cold line is way easier for there's less tight turns as in the engine area. When under the truck the four lines are,the smallest OD line is the AC return, the second is larger which is the cold charge and the remaining two are the coolant lines.

Feel off the black plastic loom covers off the cold charge line, strip out the cheesy insulation junk(might have some ahesive gunk)which comes out easily with a finger, set aside the plastic loom in order you removed it for you'll reinstall it over the newly insulated line for protection against rocks and road debris.

I insulated 100% all the way back including over the wheel to the vertical turn upwards where the water usually drips out.

I took some photos of my install which is in my photo album to help the next guy/gal when they go to do they lines. As far as I know I'm the only Excursion owner so far that has done this mod,all in all it'll run a whopping under $11.00

I'm all tuckered out from Wednesday and it's just after midnight,I'll answer those additional questions this morning

Cool deal guys! I did take my time on the job as I do take alot of pride in caring for my vehicles,my wife calls it being somewhat anal and says it's only a truck

The 16" fan is a flex a lite model slimline,I picked it up from Summit Racing for like 83 bucks or something. The part number is FLX-116,you'll need the nylon tie mount kit which you can get from Summit or most local auto parts stores,I think they'd carry the Hayden brand accessories. The relay I picked up from O'Rielly auto parts for like 6 bucks.

When ya'll get the insulation work done,we'll move onto the fan install which is pretty basic and I'll shoot pics for that phase

I don't have actual gauges to reflect coolant changes, same for the tranny temps, you'll notice where the tranny cooler is right behind the hot condensor, that'll get relocated to the front of the condensor with a small pusher fan mounted to it in the near future prior to our road trip to Phoenix,LA and Sacramento.
One would figure Ford would have engineered the whole truck alot better especially when it comes to AC,Tranny and coolant control systems.
If ya'll need to gimme a call drop me an email for my contact number I'd be glad to offer any assistance

Know the saying "What comes around goes around"? That's what I like to say as I appreciate the many folks that assisted me with information and physical assistance when working on our trucks

So I like to assist other owners as much as possible,I'll do the same for the Cummins group as they helped me with the in tank mod on our Excursion

Great info Bill. Thanks!! I can see doing the engine compartment section of this asap. If I even pick up four or five degrees cooler with just that it will be well worth it.
Next time I get under the truck....

I do have to amend a previous post on the foam insulation diameter, the Correct ID is 5/8" and not 1/2" as previously posted

I hope I didn't send ya'll down the wrong isle!

Keep me posted on the progress, try and do the insulating when it's cool out

PS:I just uploaded the fan pics to my photo album Saturday evening also
