I have had my 2001 V-10 X now for 2 months an dlove it, and have been taking it everywhere. One thing I would like to do is figure out how to get the best possible gas mileage?
I have inflated the tires to 50PSI and am waiting for a K&N Filter to arrive............anything else I can do?
Thanks,
dp

This is a common question. What mileage are you getting now?? I get 9-10 city(2 babies, car seats, misc. stuff, and AC), and 14-15 hiway(same as previous) in ours. Change your exhaust?? You might try running synthetic oil. It has been discussed on here as possibly improving the mpg slightly (read barely, if any ). The best way is to just keep your foot out of it. Remember why you bought it, not for the mpg. Good luck and enjoy. |

You are probably getting about what everyone else gets. You can do some mods to improve mileage, but you will likely never get the money back in gas savings. My plan for improving mpg on my next Excursion is to buy the 6.0 PSD. I have to admit that I have diesel envy.

I agree Rick, my wife wants me to buy her a new one, you know...Limited 6.0 4x4, with all the bling-bling. Maybe for our 10th anniversary. (we just had our 7th). I too have "diesel envy". |

I have the 7.3L PSD but I have 6.0L envy!!! Those babies are quiet and man does it sounds like they get great mileage with performance. I haven't heard anything about aftermarket "stuff" for them, so I can only imagine what the chips will do for the new 6.0L. At this point, my 2000 X feels like a vintage model.

I found a 2003 Excursion XLT 4x2 with the 6.0 PSD yesterday. I don't particularly care for leather seats and gadgets, so the XLT scratches me right where I itch. Unfortunately, it is still priced at around $40k, even with my X-plan. Sooooo, it will have to wait until a bill or two is paid off. I would love to get a used 6.0, but I'm afraid that those who buy them will keep them forever due to the end of the run.

Most people don't keep ANYTHING forever any more...They WILL be out there. I know I will be keeping my eyes open. |

Good point. I guess there will always be a few here and there. That new vehicle price is hard to accept. Oh well, as my mom always says, "we should have been born rich instead of beautiful!"

I'm not sure about the 6.0 getting better mileage. I have seen a few posts recently from people who switched and are claiming 25% lower mileage with the 6.0 vs 7.3 |

You're right Ed...
we all USE the extra power too much and my 4x4 6.0L mpg is around 15 in town and 17 to 19 on the road when driven 'nicely'....
