Have an 00 4x4 V10 and love it. I would probably love it more with a small lift - they just look trick when lifted. Looking at 3" Edge, 3.5" Fabtech. I have an extended warranty on it and do not want to jeopardize it - but - I want a lift, and i want to put some nice wheels on it. That's another post - really like the 325/60/18 Nitto Terra Grappler but havn't seen it much on X's with or without lifts. Anyway, some feedback on lifts would be great. Does it improve your ride, hurt your ride, anybody out there bummin because they lifted their X. Advice on lifts and wheels much appreciated.

I'm kind of in your shoes as well. I want to lift my X, but I don't want to lose any handling. My hardest part is getting the buy in from the wife. New rims for me are definitely out of the questions unless I get some dinero. I think that's Spanish for money that the wife doesn't know about.

It depends on which shocks and tires you'll be running. For the most part, the ride will be comparable, perhaps a little sloppier. One thing to note, a friend of mine with an F350 and the snow plow package was able to fit 35" tires (without any additional lift). His balljoints wore out and when he brought it in for warranty service, Ford denied him warranty repair because he was running "oversize" tires which in turn led to premature balljoint wear. Be prepared for similar BS from the dealership if you pull in with a lifted rig and need warranty work done on any of the "handling" components.

In the 86,000 miles on my PSD X, I have had no warranty work done on any drivetrain components or handling components. It's all been leaky seals and small odds and ends. These are solid rigs. LIFT IT!

Thanks for the tip. I think that I'll wait until the factory warranty expires before doing the lift kit then.

Thanks for the tip. I think I will put the 3" edge on with Bilstein shocks. Not sure on the wheels. I don't want to go too big with only a 3" lift. Probably either do 325/60/18's or 305/70/16's.

Earlier in the thread there was a comment about losing handling with a lift. If you go with a quality lift that has multi leaf spring packs your truck will ride something akin to a sports car and handling is much improved while ride quality compared to stock declines substantially. A lifted Excursion is not for Mommy and kids.

I would have to imagine that the higher center of gravity has it's down sides as well.

Actually I really can't see any downside handling wise compared to stock. Stock springs and handling are terrible for anything other than slow cruising mode. Like I said though, the ride is harsh with really stiff spring packs. Expect something akin to a Ford F350 or worse. On the other hand the truck will track, steer and is responsive.

The edge kit with bilstein shocks is an excellent choice. It should ride better than stock. A 3 inch lift is quite mild. Here is a photo of mine when it only had a 6" lift and 35/12.50R/16's on it. It's grown quite a bit since then... But this is the way it should sit from the factory.

6" OF LIFT WITH 35/12.50R/16's

THIS IS THE WAY IT LOOKS NOW!
14" OF LIFT WITH 39/18/16.5

When are the 44" boggers going to become a reality? They are great street tires... ;)
