Can anyone tell me if this is normal for our 02 PSD.
Start it up on these cold single digit mornings after having it plugged in to keep somewhat warm and it idles normal at approx. 500 then it jumps to 1100 and won't come down back to normal until we enter car and touch the brake pedal.
Anyone else experiencing this? |

Perfectly normal. I'm not sure what the magic temperature is for it to do this, but the high-idling is due to the Exhaust Backpressure Valve being engaged so the PSD can warm up faster while idling. If it didn't do this, you could idle your PSD all day and it wouldn't warm up to operating temp.
Hitting the brake simply deactivates it. Once you drive it around and let it idle again, it won't engage anymore because the PSD will be at normal operating temp.

Agree with you on the cool down for the turbo... and it's not just diesel turbos...
Had a late 80's Ford Probe gt (NICE Car!) with a 4 cyl & turbo... it had a system that even when you shut it down after a hard run you could hear the pump circulating oil thru the turbo just for that reason....
Wonder why they don't do that on the recent turbo equiped vehicles?
