I wanted to get some input from the knowledgable ones here. I am considering buying a '00 Excursion V10 w/ 25,600 miles. I hear horror stories about gas miledge and was wondering if you all had input on what I would be able to install to improve mpg and engine performance. Thanx for your time. |

If you drive like a nun on a rosary run, you will get very good fuel economy i get between 15 and 17 mpg when i baby it on the highway and around 12-13mpg in town with the v-10
the only thing i have done is add a K&N filter, which did not budge the fuel economy, just gave
a better sound for the intake |

Manny, I get 10-12 in mixed driving. On a recent 300 mile trip I got 13. Mileage isn't stellar. And it will vary widely between X owners. I like my V10, but would buy a diesel in an instant if I had the money. Good luck.

My '00 has the V-10 with 35,000 on it.
It has a K&N (no improvement)
A Jardine cat back (altered from an F250 kit - - picked up a full mpg.)
And runs Mobil 1 (also good for a little better - - perhaps 1/2 m.p.g. better)
I now get about 11.5 in mixed use driving.
It only got 9.5 when I bought it with 8000 miles.

Got 65K on a 2000. Get 14 - 15 mpg on trips around 75 mph. V10, 3.73 LS, 4WD. I run Mobil 1 and a K&N air filter. City driving all surface streets with lights 10 mpg. 10 - 12 miles one way to work. Jon may be a little optimistic unless its a 2 WD. I owned a 2WD V10 for 9K miles and got 11/16 city/highway. |

I don't know where we're going wrong. '01 X V10 LTD 20,000 miles 4x4. no engine, trans mods yet.
7.5 to 9 locally 11.5 on a 500 mile trip. We were thinking about a diesel when we bought this but was talked out of it. If they straighten out the 6.0 issues before X's are discontinued I may have to reconsider. |

Mike and Jody,
How do you drive? What rear axle ratio? What about tire size an pressure? Are you calculating the mileage or going off the overhead? If you use it for short trips around home, yea you could get 9 or less. On your trip how fast were you going. I could see 11.5 if you travel 80 - 85 mph.
The 6 liter runs great but not sure about reliability yet. Ford let it out on the market without enough testing. The V10 won't let you down when you're in the middle of nowhere.

We absolutely don't beat on the truck. I am a Fireman and it's about 1/4 mile to the station. (I thought I took that into consideration, maybe not ). Think the remote starter may have something to do with it; it's just soooooo convenient. I don't want to sound stupid but I'm not sure how to find the correct ratio. Original Steeltex trying 52/50 psi. Calculating the mileage not using the pos overhead. Wow are you good, exactly 80 - 85. Actually the dealer talked us out of the 6.0 due to reliability issues. We don't trailer so torque isn't an issue.
As I'm sure you know, we didn't buy this for fuel economy. We absolutely love it. I really enjoy everyone's input and learning from this forum. The people here are just great. Thanks for the response. |

Slightly off-topic but I must scold you for making such a comment. Tim "the tool man" Taylor would be devastated if he ever heard a man spew such blasphemy out loud!!!! ;)
Just kidding around...
The 6.0L is a dream. If I ever have an opportunity to buy a 6.0L X, I'm going for it.
