What do we do?
Promised myself I would never buy another Ford product after two bad experiences with vehicles, but mostly with Ford's lack of response to my problems... And now I have two ! An '02 Ford Excursion and an '02 Lincoln LS...

The LS is my wife's - nice!!! (I guess it is, I never get to drive it ) and the Ex is hers and mine, which she let's me drive

Well, we've had the Ex for about 5 months now and it's been in the shop 2 of those months (thus far!! - it's going on it's fourth week on this visit!)...
I attribute most of the shop time to a horrible dealer service dept that serially processes everything, but I still love the Ex... there is nothing else close that can do all the things it can do...comfortable, great mileage, tow 11K lbs, seat 7 AND luggage AND... even though they give me rent cars, they are never up to the capabilities of the Ex... and I'm paying for MY Ex...

So, it's somewhat like dating a beautiful woman... you're just glad to have her around when she graces you with her presence!!!

Now I've sent an email to the dealership asking for a meeting with the Ford Area Rep to see if they can help me...

How do I proceed? I had reservations when I got this particular '02 in August of '02 because you could tell it had been sitting on their lot for a while before they advertised the 46K list Limited Ultimate for 36k and I bought it... After getting it home, I could tell it had been ragged a bit either by someone at the dealership or in test drives due to the rust and beating it had taken on the underside of the trailer hitch, etc...

Isn't hindsight 20-20 ???

And I wish I had remembered my promise to myself...

i had a bad experience in 1987 with an E350 Pathfinder 4x4.you guys that think the X is the great, that E350 was a monster(460 motor)motor went bad,Ford would not replace it(2k on vehichle)Ford said find the problem,460s dont go bad,(and they dont)but this one did.long story short i sued, took 5 years(put the truck in the company name and lost my rights to lemon law)i won, swore i would never buy a Ford again(i bought a new Ford truck every 2 years)in 1999,i saw the SVT Cobra, fell in love bought it(a lot of problems, most i have fixed myself)and now i am getting an X.do i have a problem?maybe i need help.went and looked at Subs, they dont cut it.sorry JohnBoy for ranting, but give them some time(dealers)my biggest problem with the Cobra was dealer workmanship.i dont think you will find a better suv.hang in there

Gearman, have to agree with you when you said that you

I've had two Subs, still have one of them. The X is everything the Sub wanted to be when it grew up.

Thanks for the input...
Spoke to the svc writer and he is trying...
He gave my "pointed" email to the service manager and asked me to come by for a test ride to demonstrate the problem...
Not a problem going by, but I did state to them that I worry that their diesel mechanic can think a turbo whine is "normal diesel noise"...
The svc writer agrees with me and is pushing harder this time...
we'll see on the next installment of the new reality show "The Ex"

In the old forms I wrote about give me the facts. One of the issues I had with the Big Pig (the X) was could not turn steering wheel with foot on brake. Some X-clubers suggested check hubs, I did, the were rusted in the auto Mode. freed with wrench. Anyhow Joe Cotton ford serviced the Pig and changed the hubs they and said the X will not turn with foot on brakes. Tried an X on their lot and it turned fine yes stiff but fine. Their reply was, if I had a problem contact MyFord.com. I contacted Ford motor and they seem to be really working with me, they took the information, contacted the dealer and set a next monday appointment with the service manager. Can't ask much more than that: other that to turn the wheels. The dealer I am using is 21 miles away and I have 2 Ford dealers with-in a 1/4 mile of the house both have made a mess with other fords of mine so I drive to what I feel is a better dealer. What I am trying to say is contact ford be calm, talk nice, they want happy owners.By the service advisor actions may be because they do not want the major work it may take to fix this truck because they did not sell it.

I have become very wary of dealership service. The last ****head used a pair of plyers to try to free up seized hub locks. Not with the handle mind you, with the buisiness end of the plyers. Did enough damage that they had to replace one whole hub lock. I couldn't get them to replace the other one because there was not enough damage to warrant changing it out. Turns out that the ****head was the young twit at the service desk.
He thought he could solve the problem. Stupid little know it all. I pointed out to the svc manager that the twit had no buininess messing with it in the first place. The guys with the licences are supposed to be the mechanics. He agreed, but so what?

I ended up taking the other hub apart myself and making a mental note never to buy any of fords warantys or take my truck in for anything but a major, very obvious issue. Like the entire drive train falls out and gets left behind. All 4 wheels falling off doesn't qualify. Its gotta be something major. Even then, only after carefull deliberation.

Upset?? you bet. I would realy like to have a place to take my X and get it serviced by people who know what they are doing, that I trust and can see beyond the computer diagnostic screen.

Oh and a warranty that means something.

Dave.

I'm back with my love-hate relationship with our Ex....
Got the Turbo replcaced as a "customer satisfaction" issue. but they never agreed that it was a problem for the turbo to be squealing like it did....
then tonight I went to put it in reverse and heard a loud POP as it jumped into neutral... told my wife we had lost reverse.... wne to put it in drive to turn around and go home and found that it would only go in first gear !!!!
15 miles in first gear @ 20 to 25 mph because the 24 hr 7 day a week roadside assistance couldn't tow my car because the dealership was closing before they could get there !!!! Boy, am I a happy camper....

I'm done - love the potential of the Ex - but they've gone too far for this Cajun !!!

Can anyone point me to the lemon law sites????
It was nice while I had an Ex....

Johnboy, man I feel your pain!!! I got rid of a Ford Explorer several years back because of continuously reoccuring problems...nothing as bad as what you have described though. I went out an bought my first foreign made vehicle and vowed to never buy American again....but now I have the Beast. Anyway, good luck. Sounds like you've got a lemon for sure.

JohnBoy,

I feel your pain too. I've had problems of my own, the front springs being just one. A quick search found this site on the lemon laws by state.

http://autopedia.com/html/HotLinks_Lemon2.html

I'm going to let ford try a couple more times to come through 'cause I really like the "beast" but I only have so much time to waste running back and forth to the dealer.
