I somehow never closed out this thread - but.......

Ford came through finally... I think the dealer had a LOT to do with it, they RALLY seemed on my side about it!!!
I know those of you in the DFW metroplex may laugh, but Grand Prairie Ford really went to bat for me... even got Ford to credit the $2300+ usage fee and $2K of the upgrade in MSRP...
And located my NICE new '03 6.0L 4x4 Ex for me....
I am totally happy with the new X !

Ford 'done good' !!!
I like them again !

I guess I've been really lucky at Sawgrass Ford in Sunrise, Florida. They have addressed all of my warranty work without hesitation and even flashed the ECM to update the speedo for my larger tires (for free) and changed the door lock code (for free). I am just out of warranty now (38k) so we'll see if some of the issues that have cropped up for others, like the brakes, presents a different experience. Hope not.

Like any service business, I think your mileage will vary. In South Florida, the dealers are ultra competitive for service business, so I guess that raises the bar for all dealers in the area.

I'll be moving to West Palm Beach next month (40 miles away) and will no doubt have to check out a new dealer at some point. Hope my good experience moves with me :-)

In MN, I can't say I've come across a dealer that has been rude...they're all nice and try to do a good job, it's just that it takes 2 or 3 tries sometimes. I just wish the service managers were a little more personable...they never remember my vehicle or me and I'm usually in about every month for an oil change. A couple more months and I'll be in our new house with a garage that the Excursion can fit in. Can't WAIT!
