Eric, just make sure that your chip doesn't leave a code for the Ford techs. I have read that sometimes, even though you've pulled the chip, they can tell.
No firsthand experience in this, however.

I have heard about this too. From what I know, if you have a warranty claim of this magnitude (failed trans) on an Extended Service Plan, your dealer has to notify Ford who in turns sends out an ESP rep who inspects the vehicles, takes digital photos of the truck, and sends it back to The Man at Ford who gives it a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Ford was magically able to determine that my ESP was void because I have a chip in the vehicle all without removing the trans (they only removed the pan on the trans). I sure wish I could determine cause and effect relationships like this at my job...I wouldn't have to do any work! Life would be a breeze.

With regards to the chip leaving a code...I've also read that if you leave the battery unplugged for 10 minutes (or so) that any codes in your computer's memory will be gone.

Hope you can get your truck back together quickly....
Would a visit to another dealer possbibly help?

I know, they've already noted it in their system, but it may be worth a tow...

You might also call the chip manufacturer -
This is the perfect test for their claims about protection with the Magnumm-Moss act for aftermarket parts...
They've ALL told me that if the aftermarket part can't be PROVEN to have caused the failure then your warranty claim can't be denied !!!

But that will be a long drawn out thing... maybe get together with others in this situation to see if you can do anything with it????

Good luck and thanks for the heads up...
I think I'll call Ford today and get my money back on my 100K warranty...

I could fight but it's just not worth my time for a long drawn out process that will most likely have the same result. I tried calling Ford's Customer service to plead my case but I was met with someone who could barely speak English and didn't understand "How he could help me." He was just reading his default responses to my questions.

What it boils down to is that the human factor was missing from this whole situation:

- Transmission has 87,500 miles on it, by no means a premature failure judging by Ford's automatic trans "track record"
- Owner leased and bought-out lease from Ford
- has loan through Ford Motor Credit
- has the premium ESP
- has had the vehicle serviced at a Ford dealer every 5,000 miles
- has not made 1 claim against ESP
- vehicle is is excellent shape
- doesn't tow
- chip has been installed for 82,500 miles
- doesn't run oversized tires -- vehicle is completely stock except exhaust & chip

I spared no expense with this vehicle and didn't take any shortcuts, it is just frustrating to be such a loyal customer, do everything right, and enjoy my vehicle only to have something like this happen.

Mine wasn't from mods...just bad vehicles that they would not admit was bad and would cover with the old "Performing as designed" or "Performing within specs" blanket denial !!!

Cottman trans will put in a remmaned unit, labor, warranty, and converter, $1700.00

Soft parts only rebuild, $1100.00

Both with warranties and converter.

$1400.00 for an over the counter exchange. That includes converter.

Phoenix hard parts is $1100.00 for an over the counter exchange.

I wouldnt ever pay 3000.00 at a stealership.

Add the cost of fluid and a cooler, your way under $ 3000.00

New trans is in and the chip is out. WHAT A DOG this thing is w/o the chip!!!

I would have gone the route of ordering a trans online or going through gearman but like I said above, the timing could not have been worse.

Glad its behind you now. As a side note, I have a dealer that will do the modifications in his dealership. Although its obviously more expensive to buy and install, the dealer honered warranty issues when they came up.

I would love to have a dealership like this in my area. Makes sense that it costs more, but you can have more fun with your vehicles!
