After talking with gearman I decided to have a transgo "tugger" shift kit installed. His knowledge and advice are unsurpassed. I talked with a quality transmission shop in my local area that has experience installing these shift kits and they quoted me $600.00, however they said my T/C would work fine and I did not need change it. Ron's recent post has me concered on what I should do about my T/C and having that diode checked out. Give me some help gearman, the trans shop had to order the kit and said it would be a week so I have some time before they install the kit.

Thanks gomobius

i forgot what year your X is. if its an early 01, you have the bad diode. Your local dealer can tell you from your Vin#. i dont know how many miles you have on the X and dont know if you tow or not. your converter may be alright (but who can see inside?) i think the comment made by your trans shop might be a little hasty or he just hasnt had that much experience with the Ford diesels.
i would say if the mileage is not to high and there is no metal on the magnet in the bottom of the pan , you are probably alright. make sure your trans shop orders the TransGo lock-up valve along with the tugger kit. that will save a lot of wear and tear on the converter and you will love the feel. good luck, and if you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks Mike, I will make sure the transgo lock-up valve is also installed with the kit and hopefully the T/C is ok, if not I will have that replaced also.
Thanks for your advice.
