Not like its going to break my bank or anything....but....depending on how much fuel I have on board, I have to pay class 2 rates on the Ohio Turnpike. It says that over 7000 lbs is class 2 but isn't this boat always over 7000 lbs.? Sometimes I'm class1 and others class 2 ??? How do your toll roads compare?? |

Many of the VA toll roads charge by the total number of axles. I raised a stink when they charged me for 2 axles on the car riding on my open car trailer. When I had the enclosed trailer, they couldn't see the cargo, and just charged me for 4 axles. I asked why they charged me for axles that were off the pavement ... "It's our policy." |

Driving through Illinois this summer when we headed to the Ford Centennial in Dearborn, toll roads were all based on the number of axles. We weren't towing anything so we were simply considered a "car" and paid the according fee of $0.35 or something like that.
Thankfully, there are no toll roads in MN.

I drive the Ohio Turnpike every couple of months. Never had to pay class 2 without the pop-up attached. This is also true for the PA turnpike. Now that I wrote this I will probably be class 2 the next trip. |

Precise and accurate observation Lou. Depending on the volume of onboard fuel, and/or the number of passengers, Class 2 is graciously (or rather, confiscatorily) bestowed upon my wallet, courtesy of the PA Turnpike I-476. I think the threshold in PA is 7,500 lbs.

OK all you Ohio EX owners,....I have this figured out! I talked to a guy at the toll booth and he said a guy in a hummer found out how to get around it. He showed me where the scale actually weighs your truck at, and said as you approach the scale, unload the front end (try to pop a wheelie...lol). Dont hit the brakes and dive on the scale. I went through 6 toll booths this weekend and class 1 all the way. Scary how a few cents will excite me!! |

Well, you learn something new every day. I didn't know we had toll roads in Texas. You guys will probably get a huge laugh out of this, but I've never been on a toll road in my life. Maybe I'm not well traveled.
BTW, I appreciate the invitation to come to DFW, but I avoid big cities like the plague. I've been there before and have no desire to go back. I don't even like driving in Austin. Too much traffic.
