Now that the lift is on and turning 37s i looked into gears. local shops are charging 1500.00 for 4.56. i could do the supercharger myself and get more power to turn the tires when towing.
so lets see who would do which. |

Be carefull if you are going to do both. Too much gear will negate a lot of what the supercharger is suppose to do. For instance; too low of a gear will cause you to rev too quickly and not give the s/c time to buil boost and power. If you are not going to s/c, then you will want more gear.

Depends...what do you drive your X for? Will you be wheeling it or is it strictly a street queen?
If you are wheeling it, I'd go for the gears.
If it's going to be a street queen, I'd go for the blower.
What gears do you have in it now? 3.73?
Use the calculators to find out where your rpms will be: http://www.superford.org/garage/calculators/index.php#finding_rpm . It would also help to know what blower you're looking at and if there are any dyno numbers out there for what it'd produce at what rpm with regards to torque and horsepower. If you need to rev high to make the big power, then it won't do you much good as you won't have the gearing to get you there quick enough. That is under the assumption that you have 3.73 gears.

Both would be nice
Actually, with 37's, 4.56 should make you closer to stock than any other setup. I have a friend who just put 37's on his F350, did 4.88's first - too low. He then did 4.56 and it's about right. Just make sure you change out your speedo gear (if applicable)

moderate wheeling but do tow. a atv trailer 2500lb a ski boat 5000lb and want a rv toy hauler 7000lb. calculators say 4.37 restores stock speedo. so i figured 4.56 was best. |

I used the hypertch reprogrammer and love it, also firms up the shifting, plus you can adjust the RPM shift points. My rig came with 4.30 factory and I'm very happy. Regeared to 4.56 in my super duty and I plan on installing a blower, RPM's seam perfecto. Everett |
