Ken,

I have a Viper 550 alarm/remote start combo. I highly recommend it...good quality product, never had a problem with it, remote start works like a champ year-round. Warm vehicles are important for us Minnesotans in the winter time.

Just as cool vehicles are important to us in 'Texus'...
I hadn't really researched remote starts, but when the dealer offered the Ford Gold for $495 installed I did it when I purchased...

I didn't even consider the install... way more than I wanting to get into so this seemed like a fine deal for me...

600 foot range (advertised)
two key fobs,
alarm siren...
works like a champ...

I think that's a great feature if the car isn't in view. Say around the corner or on the other side of the house. Nothing worse than coming out of the house thinking that you'll be in a nice warm car in the dead of winter only to find that it didn't start.

I have the remote with the display as well...love it. Rarely am I in plain site of my truck when I need to remote start it. Nothing like starting your vehicle from the comfort of your desk chair!!!

Not sure if the setup is special or not but one time my truck didn't start on the 1st hit of the button but after a few second delay retried and fired right up (only knew it because I was in the house and heard it)... But definitely a nice feature to have

I have a viper 550 with remote start on my bronco. The remote start crapped out on me 6 months after buying it new. I have fooled with it, and is looks like some relays are bad.

I am going to be intalling the Compustar FM alarm/remote start. The range is better, and like both units I want the built in turbo timer to let my turbo chill out before shut-down.

good luck, go look at compustar,

Jared,

My remote took a dump on me also but I knew it was from me dropping it Got it replaced under warranty and no problems since... Oh, the problems were sometimes it would unlock the door and sometimes it wouldn't, the remote engine start always worked

Hope this helps

Nah, its not the remote. My 550 sends the signal to the Valet unit. Just the Valet unit doesnt do squat anymore. just sits there. No clicking in the relays.
