can you engage/disengage overdrive with the button at any speed or is there a certain speed you should be?

You can engage the o/d button anytime you want. All it does is cancell overdrive and downshifts trans to third gear which is 1 to 1.

Like Mike said, disengage it anytime. If you're in overdrive and you disengage it, it'll downshift to 3rd gear. Just be alert of your speed...disabling overdrive while cruising at 80MPH would not be good. At that point, I'm not sure if the trans would even downshift because it would probably cause the RPMs to go beyond redline.

My experiance with the OD button while towing or unloaded is that it really don't make a different when going under 35MPH perhaps it's because it's a diesel. When going faster like 45-55 you can really tell the difference. Sometimes when towing I'll just keep it in Drive because the tranny changes so much when in OD. I've talked to diesel guys who claim they stay in OD all the time whether towing or not.
