Howdy, just changed my air filter (OEM) on my 7.3PSD 02' Excursion after abt 11.5K miles using a Napa Gold 1680 equiv. Filter minder indicated abut 65% but would not reset after pushing button. Does it take awhile or do they crap out?
Also filer was pretty manky, (oily almost so it was time) and was also a FA 1710 instead of the book FA 1680. The FA 1710 is a much bigger (taller filter) than the 1680. What's the correct filter? Are K&N's worth the cash?

I run a K&N in my X. I am running a temporary paper filter until I have time to clean my K&N. It easily has 10K worth of grime on it. It's amazing how many bugs make it to the filter.
K&N gets my vote but I have not tried anything else besides K&N. I run it in all of my vehicles. I drive a lot so I'm always having to clean the filter...it's cheaper in the long run, in my opinion.
I'm sure other folks have opinion on other filters as well.

The 1710 is the correct filter for all 99.5 and up. I actually thought the 02 and later switched to the 1750. I'm using the 1750 in my truck now. It's easier to just change them then to clean and re-oil them. I'm lazy!
If you want to try a K&N, I'll let you have mine for $25 plus shipping. I'll even get off my lazy butt and clean and re-oil it for you.
