Any good service tech will tell you 15x40 is the way to go for multiple reasons, esp. for the psd., but hey you know it all, use whatever your want. |

The 15-40 may be ok for the PSD (I do not know) but do NOT put it in the gassers!!!!!
That is WAY to thick. Oh, I run the recomended 5-20 |

Surely, 5W-20 isn't specified for the PSD!!
With oil needed to "run" the injectors, I cannot imagine 5w-20 to be up to the task.

Gearman, I think your tow service knows more than your oil company does. On edit.....I had read earlier and didn't have time to respond. Missed your last post to Monsta. Glad you got the right answer. |

Folks,
I went on Amsoil's recommendations of their 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil. Unfortunately, I've only run it on one oil change interval. I can't seem to purchase the oil in advance...whenever I need an oil change, it's typically too late to wait a week for the oil to be shipped. Wish the X fit into the garage. Changing oil in the snow isn't fun.
Anyway, Amsoil has a question specifically answered with regards to which oil they recommend for the Ford Powerstroke:
Q. I have a 2001 Ford F-350 Pickup with a Powerstroke Diesel with 7000 miles. I'm getting ready to change over to synthetic oil. What AMSOIL motor oil would you recommend to use?
A. AMSOIL Series 3000 5W30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil is our premium top of the line product. While there are best uses for both our Series 3000 and our AMSOIL 15W40 Diesel and Marine Oil, Series 3000 is our recommendation for the Ford Powerstroke engine. It surpasses the API Energy Conserving Rating requirements designed to provide significant fuel savings. It has highly effective anti foam agents to prevent oil foaming. Series 3000 offers better protective film at higher temperatures than conventional SAE 40 oils while retaining fluidity at subzero temperatures
