We bought our X a couple of months ago and I've noticed a couple of things:

#1) I can feel the bumps in the road a lot more through the steering wheel in my '01 X than I could my '99 PSD F250.

#2) Every once in a while, I notice my cruise control surging the accelerator on slight hills instead of semi-gradual acceleration. It's as if on an incline the CC will surge 3 or 4 times - almost like hitting the gas pedal hard instead of slowly pressing it.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Kevin,

What tires did you have on your F250 and what do you have on your X?

1) My dad has a 2000 F250 XLT 4x4 PSD and it is a lot rougher and more "sensitive" to the road. My X feels more solid and more isolated, probably due to the more creature comfort features put on the X. Pretty much the opposite of your situation.

2) I haven't noticed this on my X with the CC on. But, when I do use the CC I usually override it and get a running start on the hills, so it rarely pulls the hills under CC control. Does that make any sense?

I'm experiencing a bit of the opposite than your dad.

Sure it makes sense. I do that on the steeper hills but not the slight inclines. What's funny, however, is that the CC doesn't always surge the accelerator.

My wife recently got a 2000 X PSD and it rides better than my 99 PSD with 33's. Her truck came with brand new stock tires though so that may be why.
Although her trucks wanders way more than mine and hers has 40K less miles on it. The Limited X sure sounds quiter inside than my XLT non Lariat F250.

weird thing, I've not experienced the surge with the cruise control in a while and I just got back from about a 2000 mile trip. Also, the road feel went away when I inflated my tires to specs. Go figure.

I've been through several all spring lift kits. The truck rode and handled like a giant go-cart with the all spring lifts - Fabtech and Skyjacker. Little sway and roll, super control, but you felt every bump inthe road and rear wheel hop was sometimes severe at high speeds. FYI the Skyjacker springs were the better of the two.

I bought the truck new so I also experienced the stock suspension. Mushy whale truck, but comfy for long interstate rides. Bottoming in front led to the first lift - plus it just didn't look right with those little 265's.

I now run an Edge 4.5 " system with dual Bilsteins in the front and singles in the rear and added a Hellwig anti-sway bar. This system is hands down the most comfortable option for a Ford Superduty. Between my own ventures and those of others, I've ridden in about every kind of Superduty you can think of and this is the settup to have. I am also getting ready to add radius rods to cancel rear wheel hop on bumps, which should complete the ultimate system.

My truck rides smooth, but firm. Better than any other one ton truck I've ridden in and better than most 3/4 and 1/2 tons. The Hellwig rear bar is a must at only $140 and the Bilsteins are superb.

Running 35's I routinely turn the overdrive off before climbing hills. On several occasions I have noticed the CC surging, but turning the OD off seems to prevent it.

A surging CC is quite common on Fords, especially around 70mph.

There is suppose to be reflash that "helps" it.

Ken, how do I identify this reflash to the dealer? My 2000 X has always exhibited the trait of surge/sag when the CC is first switched on. It goes on for about a mile or two before settling in on a steady speed.
