i changed my brakes at 45,000, turned oem rotors, torqued nuts to 150, no problems, i pull 5000 lbs worth of car and trailer,
i am wondering if i have a factory freak, i have never had any of the problems that i have seen here and other boards, my truck has never been back to the dealer, i have just over 60,000 on it trouble free....
my only complaint is the front springs which i am changing out this month sometime, have all the parts just no time...
my truck was one of the first few thousand off of the assy. line, maybe they took more pride with the first ones

No, your truck's not a freak. I have never had any rotor warp problems either. But at 55K miles, the pads needed replacement and I opted for much better braking buy putting ART rotors and pads on it. I am now approaching 70K. The only repair that I've had was a bad seal on the rear pumpkin at about 30K miles.
Unfortunately, all four ball joints will be replaced next week. But I won't make the same mistake as FoMoCo. I'm having greasable units put in. I'm also going to fix the rear suspension shortcomings at the same time with Rancho shocks and the Hellwig swaybar.

My ART rotors have been getting progressively worse with warping and I finally removed them this weekend and installed my original set of rotors. I had my original rotors turned/machined at the local Napa for $9/ea. Man is it nice having smooth brakes again.
I have noticed that the X doesn't seem to stop as well as with the ART rotors. While not a scientific test, I don't remember there being this big of a difference when I originally installed my ART rotors. Now that I have the ART rotors sitting in my garage, I'll get those turned/machined, and put them back on in a month or two. My dashboard and drinks-in-cupholders thank me.

Has anyone checked out the Stillen Racing Braking System? They also have some brake pads that are affordable and might do the trick. |
