I run a couple forums and I have a issue with not being able to search. Can we run Ikonboard or some other board?
Or, is the reason for not upgrading because all posts will be lost?

The forum software here (and the vehicle registry, account management, photo albums, etc) are all programmed by SuperFord.org staff. Searching has not been implemented yet in the forums. We don't "upgrade" to other forum software because it would not be integrated within the rest of the site, posts would be lost, and the world would come to an end.
I don't have an ETA when searching will be implemented although it is our goal to have something preliminary by the end of the year.
