On what was to be a 320 mile round trip to the FL keys this morning, my PSD began to sputter. My RPM's where not falling but I was losing speed. I had just filled up about 20 miles back and thought maybe I had water in the diesel fuel. Then I realized oil was coming up on my back window. I pulled to the side, turned her off, and watched oil drip from under the hood as I raised it. Much more poured out from underneath. (I understand there is some sort of sensor that kicked in because of the low oil and that is why she was slowing.) It's now sitting at the dealership...waiting for the diagnosis. Has anyone had any proble like this?

Jeff | This has happened to me 2 times.
It was the turbo o-rings both times. The first dealership thought it was the rear main seal and replaced it. The X dropped all of its oil shortly after that. Brought it back to the dealership, they replaced the rear main seal again...again, it dropped all of its oil. Thankfully I was out of town and forced to use a different dealership who had a seasoned diesel mechanic and was able to fix it for good.
It's not a sensor that kicks in to slow the vehicle, it has to due with the fuel injectors relying on there being oil pressure in the engine to operate. Without proper oil pressure, the fuel injectors do not operate to full capacity, and you lose power. Not a very pleasant feeling but it's almost a nice safety feature so that you don't ruin the engine. It happens pretty much instantly when oil pressure is lost.
If you are under 100K miles, this issue should be fixed under the PSD 100K mile warranty.

I've had turbo issues on the 99 PSD pickup. It was going through a ton of oil (leaking it mostly onto the valve covers at a rate of a quart ever 500 miles give or take. They fixed the nuts or bolts on the turbo someplace that appearntly stripped out??? It was at 53,000 miles and the $100 deductable was paid for a fix that would have been over $600. I told what was happening to a guy on the A plan and he said he had heard of several similiar problems with the early 99's. Mine was built on 6/99 so it is almost a 2000. Cheap turbos can be found on Ebay if there is no more warrenty.
