i want to know more about this.i believe the 4x4 is actuated by the GEM module(computer unit that works winshield wipers, door locks,ww washers, and 4x4 electonic motor thatmoves the forks in the transfer case)this motor on the back of the transfer case does the same thing that your old 4x4 floor shifter used to do.
i know you had a problem,i also know that it would scare the hell out of anyone.but my training(37years)does not help me with this.i need more info.i would like to help

yes I have images of the marks and "x" also note this "x" came from canada with 22k miles and sold in less then 1 yr old ?. not sure how to insert images, but will try.
I went back and read thru, It was the front tires that made the marks if it would of been the back tires I would of been over a 25-30 foot bank on my nose, again the X only moved aprox 15 feet straight across but never crossed the center line . I dont now if I buy the cops and other driver telling me that the front tires were spining ether, but if they where sliding (2WD)then shouldent the back tires spin even some, the front of the "x" is heaver, it was on dry level pavement. the back tires should be smoking! the marks from the front tires are aprox 15 feet wide. I'm to pick up the police report on monday, baring no more then 12" of snow. otherwise the police tend to stay home.

MAN! That must be one BAD-A!! V-10 to be able to accomplish that!!! If you think about it, under this scenario, the V-10 would have to be supplying enough power to the drivetrain that only 50% of that power was enough to smoke the front tires (which were carrying the weight of the motor AND fighting against the full force of the larger disc brakes)!!!! I'm like gearman, flame if you want to, but after a lifetime of owning and working on cars, none of this sounds plausible......! Unintended acceleration? Maybe (but just maybe) The scenario at hand? I certainly could be wrong, but my incination is to say: "no way!"

I'm not saying Scott is not being truthful...I'm just saying the assessment of this scenario (by the cop or the driver) sure sounds to be WAY off!

Picked up the report, and just as I thought no info on the report, as long as no one gets hurt, no reason to report anything in a no fault state.
Gave Ford the OK to look at the "X" today for problems, My best guess is bad master cyl. or other brake part(ABS)and computer (electronic) I hope its fixable my drive way is going thru withdraws.

I have actually heard of this happening before. Only it was a problem associated with Audi in the late seventies. I agree with Eric on the rear wheels not being able to disengage. I think the real issue is wide open throttle. The EX should be like most new cars and use a throttle position sensor. Maybe this system should have more than a "quick" check. The dealer should attempt to duplicate the problem or at least do a extensive test of some sort.
I'm not trying to be funny but, are sure your foot was not on both the gas and the brake at the same time?
