I'm a stupid lad when it comes to suspention work, but I believe I'm calling the FORD OEM traction bars "Anti sway bars"! What's the difference?

I know in order to install LANDYOT's radius rods you would need to remove the traction bars. Can I assume installing a Hellwig bar would be a must either way?

cheers

Traction bars and anti-sway bars are different animals. LANDYOT's radius rods are actually traction bars. They keep the axle from winding or twisting when you apply power. The Hellwig (or OEM) anti-sway bar minimizes the twisting of the body/frame when going around curves or corners.

And I'm glad they are then...

I guess our "wide open spaces" allow more speed and
needing the sway control when we DO have to dodge them longhorns

Hahaha. How true. And on the flip side, it gets so damn icy up here, nobody can drive fast enough to cause body roll...so why the need to install swaybars?

After look under the truck I was able to determine I have front/back sway bars, 1 1/2 front and 1 1/4 back. I figured as such....the truck corners like it's on rails Just kidding, but it doesn't roll.

So last question, What does the traction bar look like?

Rozett - I can understand the reason some folks would refer to my radius-rods as traction bars, but I use different terminology for a reason. The OEM tract bars work ONLY when you're accelerating ... when you're wanting traction ... and they do absolutely nothing when cruising along or braking. Conversely, my radius-rods are working all the time ... while accelerating, cruising, and/or braking. And because my radius-rods work all of the time, they can improve ride quality and eliminate on-center steering wander. The OEM traction bars do what they're designed to do ... aid traction ... but they do not do what the radius-rods do ... and that is to keep the rear axle in a controlled arc (radius). I hope this provides some clarification between the two styles of suspension bars/rods.

Landyot, thanks for the clarification. But I was just answering the question that was asked.... traction bars vs. anti-sway.
